Sad Girl Autumn

Howdy friends!

It’s officially my season. Fall is my absolute favorite time of year and it’s not just because I’m a November baby. Cozy sweaters, warm drinks (non alcoholic and alcoholic beverages alike), pumpkin patches, farmers markets, masculine scented candles, and the holidays right around the corner…. what’s not to love?

I named this blog Sad Girl Autumn not necessarily because I’m sad this fall season, in fact I think I might be the happiest I’ve been in a really long time. I gave it that name because, with all the cozy vibes, I love a good moody playlist. My mom and I both love making playlists to fit the seasons and it’s only right I make one for the best season.

Even though I’m a pretty happy gal these days I love nothing more than sipping some red wine, sitting on my balcony watching the beautiful autumn sunsets (they’re just better than summer sunsets in my humble opinion) and listening to a playlist that just captures the vibe. That being said, I’ve had several people request I share my Sad Girl Autumn playlist. I made an Apple Music and Spotify playlist for anyone out there who needs a good vibe check this pumpkin spice season. It’s mostly songs I’ve been obsessed with lately.

My best advice is to hit shuffle and see where it takes you!

I thought maybe it would be fun to share a few of my favorites songs right now and why they’re my favorites. Being a songwriter, I love hearing why someone loves a song and what specific lines in the song gives them the feels.

(Warning: Playlist contains A LOT of Taylor Swift. Her new album will most definitely be added to this once it’s released haha. She’s a fellow Sagittarius so I think she nails the fall vibes.)

SAD GIRL AUTUMN FAVORITES:

Cowboy Like Me - Taylor Swift

I love this song because it tells a story. Yes, Taylor Swift is definitely not a scrappy cowboy who needs to steal from the rich, but let’s just pretend for a second. Also, I have no idea why but I imagine a crisp fall night at some country club when I listen to this. (This does have an explicit - skip if that’s something that bothers you.)

Favorite Lyrics: Now you hang from my lips like the gardens of Babylon, with your boots beneath my bed, forever is the sweetest con.

In His Arms - Miranda Lambert

This. Dang. Song. KILLS ME. I think it’s so beautifully written. It was originally released on the Marfa Tapes which I think was recorded around a campfire. Can’t get much more autumn than singing a haunting song around a campfire….

Favorite Lyrics: I’ve been a rollin’ stone, a tumble weed. Looking for the right one to come find me. But the wrong one always sets me free. I wish I was in his arms tonight.

Jealous of the Moon - Nickel Creek

I listened to this last October driving around on a cold fall night. The moon was absolutely breathtaking and these lyrics made me tear up. Something about bluegrass makes me think of fall… don’t ask me why because I couldn’t tell you…

Favorite Lyrics: I hate to see a friend of mine, laughing’ out loud when she’s crying’ inside.

Also: Starin’ at the stars, jealous of the moon

Badge and Gun - John Mayer

It wouldn’t be fall without listening to John Mayer’s Paradise Valley album. If you’ve followed me on Instagram you’ll know I’ve stated on multiple occasions this is one of my all time favorite albums. This song in particular screams chilly weather and rolling Montana mountains. If you want some cowboy feels this is the song for you.

Favorite Lyrics: This house is safe and warm but I was made to chase the storm. Taking the whole world on with big ‘ol empty arms.

Moon - Anthony Adams & The Nite Owls

My favorite Kimbro’s bartender. Well, he no longer bartends at Kimbro’s, but Anthony use to bartend during the open mic at Kimbro’s Pickin’ Parlor in Franklin when I first moved to Nashville. He would hop on stage to sing a few songs and this was one my Mom’s favorites. It takes me back to my early years in Nashville. Something about fall/winter moons just hit different. There’s nothing like listening to this on a chilly night. I highly recommend listening to all of Anthony’s music. I have multiple songs on this playlist by him but I felt like this was the perfect one to highlight.

Favorite Lyrics: Oh moon, where have you been? I’ve been sitin’ here waitin’ on you but the clouds keep you hid. I see you moon, yes of course I do, you’re the brightest light in the sky on my darkest, my darkest of nights.

Stick Season - Noah Kahan

My last song highlight of my Sad Girl Autumn playlist is an artist I’ve been OBSESSED with. If you’re on TikTok, you know. This song went viral and I fell in love with the lyrics. See also Northern Attitude - literally, can you get more fall-ish? Anyways, this is the perfect song for all of your autumn walks. Pop some headphones in and go enjoy looking at the beautiful leaves.

Favorite Lyrics: No, I am no longer funny ‘cause I miss the way you laugh. You once called me “forever” now you still can’t call me back.

I could give you guys a review of every single song on this playlist but I doubt anyone has the time for that…. or even has the time for the few I did review. But I hope you enjoy my Sad Girl Autumn playlist and these beautiful songs that deserve all the attention.

May the only sad thing in your autumn be the songs you listen to haha.

xx Carson
