Find The Good No Matter How Small

Hi there!

Fall has finally arrived here in Franklin, Tennessee. Most of you know that this is my favorite season. Bonfires, s’mores, hot chocolate, beautiful colors as you walk outside, and best of all - birthdays. My mom had a birthday at the beginning of October. My grandma and I have a birthday in November. Fall is filled with a lot of my favorite things.

It's no secret this year has been a difficult one, especially for musicians. I played BusCall (a small artist showcase that happens in Nashville) last week. I hadn’t done that since before all of the COVID craze started. It was a very strange experience. It's normally packed with people brushing shoulders. $6 Titos is yelled out multiple times and so many people are laughing/hugging/mingling/meeting. It feels magical and there's always a buzz in the room that makes you feel like anything is possible. That's a typical Nashville show. That's how I remembered it being before the pandemic. What I got last night felt so foreign.

Now it looks more like masked faces, having to be seated at a table, not being able to order at the bar, and once they reach their capacity they have to close the doors to everyone else until someone leaves. This world really is a strange place sometimes haha. It was still a great night and I appreciate the BusCall guys for putting the event together. It’s just one of the many things that feel different these days. Music is always the same, though; that’s one thing I can always count on.

Needless to say, I haven’t been going out in Nashville a ton. There’s not a lot going on in my life these days. I go to my part-time job, I come home, I write, I play with Caroline, I go to the farmers market, and I repeat that week after week. That being said, it’s been really wonderful when I get to see my friends. I feel like my appreciation for friendships has grown 100x more thanks to the pandemic. So, I wanted to share some highlights with some people that have kept me going during the slow pace I’ve been having to pass through for a season.

My best friend, Abbey, came to visit at the end of September. There’s still some limits as to what we can do and where we can go, but we simply had the best time doing nothing together. We managed to get coffee, walk around Franklin, and get brunch one morning. I’m a firm believer the best kind of friends are the ones that you don’t have to do anything at all with in order for it to be fun.

Another friend of mine hit me up one day and asked if I’d like to check out Dolly Parton’s new restaurant, The White Limozeen. You technically have to have a reservation (and they are booked months in advance) but we went early before the restaurant opened. They let us walk out onto the roof top area for a few minutes…. then we got kicked out because my friend took my photo with his professional camera. Oops! Haha it made for a great story.

I’ve taken up a new hobby with my friend Rain and her family. They are avid pickleball players. I had never played before but they kindly taught me the rules. Some of the best nights I’ve had these last few months have been spent playing with them and then going to their house for a few rounds of cards afterwards.

I’ve had some wine nights with my gal pal Ericca Latza. A few have even turned into songwriting nights haha. You never know what you’ll get at a girls night in Nashville.

Even though life has been tough I have been trying my best to find the good in even the smallest things. I wanted to share some of my small good things and I would love to hear the good things you’re clinging to during this strange season of life. Comment them below!

I love you guys. Thanks for reading my blog. Every comment, message, or like on any of my social media accounts mean more to me now than ever before. Keep on keeping on. Find the good no matter how small.

xx Carson
